Every July 10th, we like to pause and tip our hats to one of the most brilliant and misunderstood inventors in history: Nikola Tesla. This year, we’re not stopping at just one day. All month long, we’re celebrating Tesla’s birthday at Fox with a spotlight on our fan-favorite room, Tesla’s Mystery.
The Room: Tesla’s Mystery
An ingenious invention from one of the greatest minds in human history is in danger of falling into the wrong hands.
Nikola Tesla died in 1943 in Room 3327 of the famous New Yorker Hotel. After his death, you receive a letter from Tesla himself, asking you to come to his room to find the plans for his last invention — and share it with mankind before the FBI can get to it. But when you arrive, you learn the FBI is already on its way. You have 60 minutes to find the plans and get out before they arrive and arrest you for trespassing.
Can your team crack the mystery before time runs out?
A Few Facts About the Man Behind the Legend
Tesla’s real life was every bit as fascinating as the story we’ve built our escape room around:
He spent his final years living at the New Yorker Hotel, working in relative solitude on ideas that, to this day, remain shrouded in mystery.
He held nearly 300 patents across the world, covering everything from alternating current (AC) motors to radio and wireless transmission.
Tesla’s AC system powers the modern world. His alternating current technology beat out Thomas Edison’s direct current in the “War of the Currents” and remains the backbone of how electricity is transmitted today.
He envisioned wireless technology decades ahead of his time, dreaming of a world with wireless communication and even wireless power transmission — ideas that feel strikingly modern even now.
The FBI really did seize his papers. After Tesla passed away in 1943, the U.S. government took possession of his belongings and research, fueling decades of speculation about undiscovered inventions — the same intrigue that inspired our room.
